現在形、過去形、仮定法過去
- 古い時代の英語には、現在形、過去形、仮定法過去の形しかなかった。
- 現在形で書かれていても、時を表す副詞や文脈などで、未来のことか、そうでないのかがわかった。
- 名残・・・現在形が「確定した未来のことがらを表す」
- 時の副詞節「...した後で」は未来感があるので現在形動詞でOK。
- （例外）I don't know when he will come back. 彼の帰りが不確かなのでwillを使っている。
- 古い時代の英語では、不確定の要素は動詞の原形を用い、仮定法現在の形になっていた。
- それが、徐々に助動詞を伴うようになった。
- 名残・・・suggest, request, insist + that + 原型 or ＜should + 原型＞
